Daniel Franklin Bromley
(25 January 1960 - 21 November 1992)
Daniel Franklin Bromley Jr. was born on the 25th of January 1960 in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas, to Daniel and Helen Bromley.
Excerpt from the San Diego Affirmation newsletter, Dec. 1992,
p. 2:
We are very sorry to inform the chapter that on November 21, 1992, Dan
Bromley, former director of the San Diego chapter passed away after
battling AIDS. Dan gave many years of dedicated service to the San Diego
chapter, and stuck with it even though it often seemed to [be] an uphill
battle.
We recognize Dan's commitment and honor his willingness to go
the extra mile. Dan cared deeply about the special needs of gay and
lesbian LDS, and our chapter owes a great debt to him. Please remember
his courage, and extend his work by renewing your own commitment to
make a difference. He is survived by his partner, Bob [Anderson], who, though not
LDS, was also a great friend of our chapter. Please extend your prayers
and support.
Quote by Dan:
"What forces me to rush to the spirituality of the Church? It comes from
pride. Growing up with the Church during my teenage years, I came to know
that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a true church for
me. The Church was a way of life. It became a cornerstone and helpmate for
my life. Not only did Mormon scriptures and attitudes help me, but the consistent
fellowship of Church members helped me through those troubling teen years.
These experiences later kept me level-headed as my homosexual feelings made
themselves known."
"It is my hope that efforts to explore the homosexual issue by various
Church members will create an upsurge of grassroots support among the Church
members. The Church has never been noted for its sweeping changes. Any change
will occur very slowly. The new perception of homosexuality offered by a
few members points to a day when the Church will accept lesbian and gay
Mormons. Until that day groups like affirmation, HELP, People Who Care,
Sunstone, and Parents for Understanding, will exist on the outskirts of
Temple Square. And they will continue to call for the temple doors to open
for God's gay children."
