USGA Group Launched in Rexburg

Understanding Same Gender Attraction, commonly referred to as USGA, is an unofficial group of BYU-Idaho students, whose primary goal is to foster understanding on the topic of homosexuality as a Latter-Day Saint. We strive to create a safe place for both those who experience same-gender attraction and their allies. The group meets every Thursday at 8 PM to discuss the trials and blessings of being LGBT. It is a place where those who feel alone can find support and friendship and know that it truly does get better. All are welcome to join and may find more information on our Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/USGA.Idaho.

Hi! I don’t attend BYU but I am interested in the fact that there is a group of students who foster understanding homosexuality as a Latter-day Saint. I really believe that homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of and there should be a campus and state wide awareness of homosexuals wanted to get married. Yes, it does state in church that marriage is defined– by the Lord– as being between a man and a woman but there are plenty of homosexual, Mormon individuals who are happy with their lifestyle and life their life to the fullest under the Lord. In conclusion, I feel that BYU has been taking the right turn accepting LGBT students be who they are.

I am a 1982 graduate from BYU with a Master’s Degree in Theatre & Cinematic Arts-Directing. I just retired after teaching and directing English, Theatre Programs in Utah for 14 years and in NYC for 21 years.

I am married to a man and we have just moved from the NY area to SLC. Are there any groups that would benefit me? I was excommunicated due to my homosexuality. I served a very successful mission, married a woman, and had two children before I finally faced my truth. I was even a scheduled veil worker and a member of the bishopric when I was still a member. I divorced, my sealing is now “held in suspension” (what ever THAT means). I have been in a healthy, moral, and beautiful gay marriage for many years. I hope to hear from someone.

    Yours,
