They Will Meet on a Monthly Basis

Dear Friends Around the World,

Greetings from Mexico City. The first meeting of Afirmación México was very successful. We met at 7:00 pm, and the time flew. First we introduced ourselves and expressed our feelings about the Church. We all agreed that we can indeed be LDS and live our sexual orientation without remorse, because God accepts us as children and loves us the way we are. Each of us shared how we arrived at that conclusion.

As we were getting started, we got a phone call from Scott MacKay, executive director of Affirmation, who congratulated us and expressed his best wishes. His phone called really lifted us—we felt supported and strengthened.

We also reviewed the purposes of Affirmation. We all agreed that we need a group in Mexico to help out our friends in conflict, and especially to eradicate the myths Church leaders have about homosexuality. We agreed that we'll meet monthly. Our next meeting will be Saturday, September 1, in the afternoon. Those who come can stay over for free.

Later we had a simple dinner where sampled the culinary skills of some of our members. We also took some pictures to preserve the memories. We felt very comfortable and excited. We discussed many things concerning the Church, we made new friendships, and above all, we were strengthened.

Thank you all for your prayers and spiritual support. For those who have to courage to come to Mexico City, we're waiting with open arms. Un abrazo,

Carlos A. Peralta
