"Blessing" Moves Audiences
by Hugo Salinas
October 2003
Award-winning writer and director Stephen Williams has just released
Blessing, a 16-minute film that is moving gay and straight audiences
alike. The film was recently screened at a Family Fellowship forum and
at Affirmation's annual conference in Salt Lake City.
Blessing offers an honest and insightful look into real family dynamics
as a young gay man and his Mormon family are brought together when the
father suffers a near-fatal heart attack.
"Blessing packs a powerful punch and delineates the path that filmmaking
about Mormon experience must likely take if it is to eventually appeal
to broader audience," wrote Paul Swenson for Catalyst
Magazine. "Williams'... touch is both subtle and forceful."
The producers of the film Blessing are grateful for any contributions
to help meet the expenses of the final editing process and transfer of
the film from digital to 35mm format, preferred for film festivals. If
you are able to contribute, please make checks payable to "Family Fellowship
- Film," and send them to David Hardy, P.O. Box 901852, Sandy, UT 84090.
All contributions are tax deductible.
