Browsing through a popular site, an Affirmation member found the model who posed for the cover of In Quiet Desperation in pictures which do not depict his eyes pasted over. The images were located at GettyImages.com, a commercial image bank used by advertisers and publishers.

One of the newly-found pictures shows the model smiling and conveying confidence and serenity with his hazel eyes. A high number of similarities with the book cover, including facial features, hairstyle, and tie design, leave no doubt as to the model's identity.

In a recent article posted on the Affirmation website, Lisa Hansen explores the Mormon practice of hiding human faces representing gay and lesbian people. "Why is it that LDS publications do not show us the face of any gay person?," asks Lisa in her August 2007 article. "Is it because gay Mormons are supposed to be ashamed of who they are? Is it because they will soon be ‘cured’ and therefore they shouldn’t be outed to the person they’ll someday marry? Or is it because if they were to actually show us their full face we would realize that they are as normal and happy as any other person?”
