For the second time this week, same-sex marriage supporters protested outside the Mormon Temple in University City.

Protesters are angry that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints contributed millions of dollars in campaign support to help pass Proposition 8. The proposition, which voters passed last week, bans same-sex marriage in California.

“I am so surprised the Mormon church that has suffered persecution and discrimination in the past is now being oppressive,” said Amy Cheng, 32, a hospice nurse who lives with her husband in La Jolla and attended the protest with her 2-year-old son, Logan.

“The Mormon Church is a small percentage in California, and yet they raised the largest percentage of funds against the gay population, and I totally disagree with it,” said Stephen Murdock.

Since Election Day, protesters have been targeting Mormon churches all across the nation.
