United in Peace at the 2017 Chile Conference

“United in Peace”, Chileans gathered for the last conference of Affirmation internationally, organized and held in the capital of Chile, Santiago. Conference attendees had the opportunity to participate in workshops, a devotional, a testimony meeting, and a leadership training focused on the needs of LGBT Mormons, their family, and friends in Chile. After fourteen years of having a presence there, Affirmation is alive and well in Chile.

Air of Hope in Argentina

Months of meetings and discussions between Affirmation leadership and church authorities in Argentina have opened the doors for LGBT people to attend church meetings and possibly return to the Church, including Sister Sonia, a transgender woman in the Tucumán Province, who had not attended church since before transitioning.

The stories of others like them help them to realize they are not alone, and to see diverse examples of others who are leading happy, healthy, productive, spiritual lives. Making sure that that content is accessible and easy to find and that it actually connects with our target audiences is crucial to our mission. This web team will serve our English, Spanish, and Portuguese communities, helping to expand the reach of Affirmation.

Jairo Fernando Gonzalez Diaz and Laurie Lee Hall Join the Affirmation Board

Laurie Lee Hall, trans activist and former LDS Church architect, and Jairo Fernando González Díaz, descendent of some of the first LDS converts in Colombia, are the newest members of the Affirmation Board.

First International Conference Dominican Republic and Caribbean
