I’m Not Going to Pretend I’m Anything Other Than What I Am: Mormon and Queer

For me, my sexual orientation and my Mormonism are paralleled in my struggles as a bisexual woman. I’ve felt pulled between two communities I love dearly. The truth is I can’t deny my Mormon identity, motivation, and beliefs any more than I could deny that I’m attracted to multiple genders.

We can say that, yes, LGBT people can be spiritual, contrary to what some might think. We seek to take care of the spirit because we know that we are all children of the same father. Romans 8:16 reads, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”

Elders Oaks and Ballard Leave Many Questions Unanswered at Young Single Adult Broadcast

Young single adults from around the world submitted over four thousand questions to Elders Oaks and Ballard to consider answering during a worldwide broadcast. More than one hundred of those questions dealt with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender members of the LDS Church or their family members and friends. During a BYU Devotional Address on November 14, 2017, Elder M. Russell Ballard, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, took the opportunity to answer various questions submitted to him by young single adult members of the Church, including two questions on LGBT issues. Ballard shared his belief that LGBT people have a “place in the kingdom.”
