howard_b_andersonWe regret to announce the passing of Howard B. Anderson (May 24,1928 – January 21, 2014). As president of the Los Angeles Stake, Pres. Anderson sponsored in the mid-1990s the “Third Friday Group” which gathered once a month at the Westwood Ward (behind the Los Angeles Temple). The purpose of the gatherings was to educate himself and others about what it is like to be LGBT and Mormon, offering everyone the opportunity to fellowship together in a church setting.

“Howard was a great man who reached out to the gay community long before it was hip to do so,” says Ben Jarvis. “He took a lot of heat for showing Christ-like love to those who needed it most. He was there for me personally during a very difficult time for me and my family and it was a high honor to have him in attendance at my wedding back in 2008.”

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – Westwood Ward: 10740 Ohio Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90024.
