For states which do not have marriage equality, the Conference recommends implementing covenant commitment ceremonies. The same conference recommended allowing priesthood ordinations regardless of sexual orientation so long as the person is either married or in a monogamous, committed, same-sex relationship.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nomorestrangers.org\/forward-steps-by-our-cousins-in-the-community-of-christ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog entry about the policy change<\/a><\/strong>, LDS author Carol Lynn Pearson wrote that she is \u201cvery glad to be Restoration Cousins with these good people [of the Community of Christ],\u201d and \u201cto be walking with them on the journey toward inclusion of our gay brothers and sisters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>John Hamer, an out man and Community of Christ historian, says the move \u201cis consistent with Community of Christ\u2019s trajectory over the past half century, which has been to focus on building Christ-centered communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJesus preached the gospel of inclusion and of love,\u201d John added. \u201cHe opposed the worship of senseless rules as hypocritical and \u2018pharisaical,\u2019 and yet ironically soon after Jesus\u2019 death Christians began to fixate on their own senseless rules, using them to marginalize others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LDS blogger and political scientist Chris Henrichsen praised the Community of Christ in a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/approachingjustice\/2013\/04\/23\/community-of-christ-and-the-liberal-mormon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog entry announcing the new policy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, the Community of Christ is an example of the vibrancy of the Restoration movement that started with Joseph Smith,\u201d Chris wrote. \u201cThey are my brothers and sisters in the Restoration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read the full story at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cofchrist.org\/usaConf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cofchrist.org\/usaConf<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><em>For personal stories from Affirmation community members, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"\/category\/profile-faces\/\">Faces of Affirmation<\/a>\u00a0page.
