Fue durante su mandato en BYU que llegu\u00e9 a conocerlo, primero como estudiante en una de sus clases de biolog\u00eda con honores, y luego en una clase de religi\u00f3n con honores que examin\u00f3 temas controvertidos como el aborto y la evoluci\u00f3n. Esto fue a principios de la d\u00e9cada de 1980. Aunque la homosexualidad no fue uno de los temas cubiertos en el plan de estudios, se nos pidi\u00f3 que escribi\u00e9ramos poes\u00eda y mantuviera un diario personal como una de las asignaciones del curso. Gracias a esta asignaci\u00f3n, y gracias al entorno de indagaci\u00f3n intr\u00e9pida y de mente abierta en el curso de Bill, esta se convirti\u00f3 en la primera oportunidad que tuve para reflexionar y escribirme sobre los desaf\u00edos relacionados con ser gay y morm\u00f3n, algo que he estado agradecido con Bro. Cuando su hijo Brett les habl\u00f3, como mi madre, Marge Bradshaw comprendi\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente los problemas que enfrentaba su hijo. Ella se ha convertido en una de sus defensoras m\u00e1s feroces. Su compromiso de proteger ese v\u00ednculo sagrado entre los padres y su hijo, y entre el ni\u00f1o y la familia que ha creado con su c\u00f3nyuge e hijos adoptivos, ha sido evidente en su trabajo y compromiso con LDS Family Fellowship y su apoyo a Affirmation.
