Affirmation LIVE: Monthly Virtual Fireside with Kris Irvin and Conner Leavitt

Affirmation LIVE Kris Irvin and Conner Leavitt

July 1, 2020

This Affirmation LIVE monthly virtual fireside features guest speaker Kris Irvin and musical guest Connor Leavitt. This event took place on June 28, 2020.

Guest Speaker

Kris Irvin is a trans-masculine non-binary member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who made national news as a student at Brigham Young University when they were told they could face church discipline and expulsion from the university if they underwent breast-removal surgery. Kris has been an outspoken advocate for transgender Latter-day Saints, penning letters to the editor that have been published by The Salt Lake Tribune, The Washington Post, and other outlets. Prior to the social distancing required by COVID-19, when General Conference was an in-person event, Kris could be found greeting conference-goers with a sign encouraging them to, “Hug a Transgender Mormon.”

Musical Guest

Conner Leavitt is a vocal performance student at Utah Valley University who performed in the opera La Traviata earlier this year and in Carmen last year. Conner has been featured by Brigham Young University’s The Daily University for his advocacy of equal rights for LGBTQ people as a Mormon millennial. He sang at the grand opening of Encircle in Provo, Utah in 2017.

I enjoyed the first fireside, and have equally enjoyed this one (The second one). I find they are uplifting and beneficial to me and my well being. I am 75 and my same sex spouse of 16 + years is 68. Because of compromised health issues we are both in lock down and have not left our abode since March 30. The firesides really help give me a boost. I am so thankful for technology and that such moments as the firesides help bring us together. I hope that each of you “stay calm, be kind, and stay safe,” which is the message our health minister, Bonnie Henry in British Columbia gives us each day after she delivers her Provincial Health Report.
