{"id":7001,"date":"2015-02-10T11:31:33","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T18:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/affirmation.org\/?p=7001"},"modified":"2021-10-03T09:37:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-03T15:37:42","slug":"welcome-affirmation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/affirmation.org\/pt\/bem-vinda-afirmacao\/","title":{"rendered":"Todos s\u00e3o bem-vindos em Afirma\u00e7\u00e3o"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/affirmation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-10-15_john_dehlin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-15011\" src=\"https:\/\/affirmation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-10-15_john_dehlin-300x184.jpg\" alt=\"2-10-15_john_dehlin\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/affirmation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-10-15_john_dehlin-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/affirmation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-10-15_john_dehlin-200x123.jpg 200w, https:\/\/affirmation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-10-15_john_dehlin.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/home\/2163720-155\/mormon-critic-john-dehlin-is-excommunicated\">Salt Lake Tribune reports<\/a>\u00a0that John Dehlin, Founder of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mormonstories.org\/\">Mormon Stories<\/a>, has been excommunicated for &#8220;conduct contrary to the laws and order of the church&#8221;\u00a0and\u00a0&#8220;apostasy&#8221; and cited the following evidence for the unanimous decision:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dehlin&#8217;s teachings disputing the nature of God and the divinity of Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>His statements that the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham are fraudulent and works of fiction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>His statements and teachings that reject The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as being &#8220;the true church with power and authority from God.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The article\u00a0also reports that the letter from his Stake President mentioned\u00a0his\u00a0&#8220;spread[ing] these teachings widely via the Internet to hundreds of people in the past,&#8221; and his\u00a0plans to &#8220;continue to do so&#8221; and &#8220;because of your categorical statements opposing the doctrines of the church, and their wide dissemination via your Internet presence, which has led others away from the church.&#8221; \u00a0According to the article, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/media\/pdf\/1484938.pdf\">Stake President&#8217;s letter<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mormonnewsroom.org\/article\/church-responds-to-john-dehlins-public-comments\">LDS Church&#8217;s press statement<\/a>, John was apparently,\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;officially&#8221; disciplined for his research and support of LGBTQ Mormons or his views supporting\u00a0gay marriage.<\/p>\n<p>______________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>John Dehlin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oYRUy8TUS2s\">presented his LGBT Mormon research at Affirmation&#8217;s Annual International Conference in 2012<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SUWcV1S0zEI\">received our Ally Award<\/a>. This research has been a blessing to LGBT Mormons, their families and friends in helping better explain the complexities of being LGBT and Mormon. We mourn with him and those touched by his excommunication. We express our love for him and gratitude for all the work he has done and will continue to do on behalf of LGBTQ individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Church discipline is complicated and strikes deep. It is administered by leaders who feel\u00a0they are seeking the Spirit of revelation in making difficult decisions about how to uphold what they see as core principles of the Church and how to nurture the faith of all its members, including those who are being disciplined.<\/p>\n<p>We recognize that some\u00a0members of the Church and Affirmation have had negative experiences with church discipline.
