Asexual individuals do not experience sexual attraction. Asexual individuals can also be aromatic, meaning they do not experience romantic attraction. However, not all asexual individuals are romantic, and not all aromantic individuals are asexual.
The Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN) explains that unlike celibacy, which is a choice to abstain from sexual activity, asexuality is an intrinsic part of who asexuals are, just like other sexual orientations. Asexual people have the same emotional needs as everybody and are just as capable of forming intimate relationships.
