Science
Like doctors and pilots, I didn’t make up the principles that govern LGBTQ mental health — we have merely discovered them and now use them daily to safeguard lives. I pray with my feet every day that Latter-day Saints will come to fully understand these discoveries too. We are all part of one body in Christ. May we see that each part however different is equally needed by us.
Science matters. If we embrace the findings of science, that sexual orientation and gender identity are biologically indelibly imprinted during fetal development and that they are varieties of normal, then we become a more just society as well as recipients of the enormous gifts that LGBT people bring to the table.
Gregory Prince traces the development in the Mormon Church’s handling of homosexuality, future possibilities for change, and how medicine has evolved its understanding. He discusses the need for gay, lesbian, and bisexual Mormons to have healthy relationships with the church.
