National non-profit organization Affirmation LGBTQ Mormons Family and Friends, began its first Hawaii chapter in the Laie community this year, said organizers, due to a need voiced by BYU–Hawaii students and faculty.
Conversations are happening now that would have been unimaginable a decade ago, but the sense of urgency is real among gay and lesbian Mormons to have other church members and leaders find love, understanding, and acceptance within church doctrine, policy, and culture.
Tom Christofferson, friend and former board member of Affirmation, sat down with John Dehlin of Mormon Stories to discuss his book, That We May Be One: A Gay Mormon’s Perspective on Faith and Family. Over the course of this three-hour interview, Tom explores his experience, faith, and perspective on being LGBT and Mormon.
