Remembering Bill Evans

Bill Evans

Bill Evans served on the Affirmation Board of Directors from 2016 to 2021. As a straight ally, Bill’s journey to becoming an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community began while working with activists to develop and promote a new civil rights ordinance in Salt Lake City in 2009. As a retired lobbyist in the Public Affairs Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bill leveraged his experience and relationships to open dialogue between the Church and Affirmation to foster a positive relationship. Bill was an essential collaborator as Affirmation responded to church policy changes impacting LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families, using his experience to counsel Affirmation leadership; counsel that continues to resonate with and guide Affirmation leadership today.

In lieu of flowers, Bill's wish was to have folks donate to Affirmation.

Affirmation creates worldwide communities of safety, love, and hope and promotes understanding, acceptance, and self-determination of individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. We affirm the inherent self-worth of LGBTQIA+ individuals as complete, equal, and valuable persons and support them as they define their individual spirituality and intersection with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
