David Matheson, CMHC has practiced psychotherapy since 1996. Raised devoutly Mormon, he tried to repress his own gay sexuality and lived in a mixed-orientation marriage for 34 years. Believing homosexuality was wrong and wanting to help others with similar beliefs led him to become a conversion therapist, which he practiced for about 20 years before gradually realizing its flaws and potential harms. In 2018, he left his marriage, left the LDS Church, and came out, which exploded into an international news event. Following almost 5 years of personal recovery, David has returned to practicing psychotherapy as a gay affirming therapist.
