Affirmation is sponsoring a number of gratitude and service gatherings to be held during November. LGBT Mormons, families and friends will gather in their cities for a service project and a potluck Thanksgiving dinner, sharing in a thankfulness circle and socializing.

San Francisco/Bay Area

At the home of Judy Finch in Oakland, CA, on November 10 at 4:00 PM. For more information, contact Diane OviattSee Facebook Event.

Service Component: We are doing a toy drive for Children’s Hospital Oakland. Bring a new unwrapped toy for patient’s Christmas gifts.

Washington DC

Dinner at the home of Greg Prince in Potomac, MD, on November 17, 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM: 13320 Signal Tree Lane, Potomac, MD 20854. What to bring: This will be a potluck style–more information to come soon as to what to bring. For more information about the dinner, contact James BrintonSee Facebook Event about the dinner.

Service Component: We will be donating our time, talents, and energies to Casa Ruby, a multicultural center and safe space serving the LGBT communities and those of any race, color, or economic background in the Washington, DC, MD, or VA area. As a non-profit, Casa Ruby’s work focuses on those within the LGBT. What we are doing: Re-organizing their donation area, cleaning and organizing the common space, and a bit of weed pulling is what we will focus on.

When: Saturday, November 16 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Note: We changed the time of this event.

New York/New England

At the home of Tom Christofferson in New Cannaan, CT, on November 23 at 4:00 PM. For more information, contact Tom ChristoffersonSee Facebook Event.

Service Component: We are going to do a canned food drive to the New Canaan Food Pantry. If you are able, please bring canned goods or see full list of accepted items at the Pantry’s webpage.

Salt Lake City, UT

On November 23 at 6:00. PM. Turkey and ham will be the main dish so please bring a potluck to go along with it! The social/dinner/service project will take place in American towers in downtown Salt Lake City. Go to the community room on the second floor. (Also enjoy beautiful views of the city from the sky rise rooftop)! More details on the service project to come–stay tuned. 44 W. Broadway, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. Park on Broadway (300s) or in the American Plaza parking under the building. Bring in your parking ticket for validation. Look for the American Towers entrance. Raleigh, NC

Service Component: Youth homelessness is a devastating problem in our country, but most especially for our LGBT youth. There is only one place in the Triangle that provides housing, food and training for living on there own for these LGBT homeless youth. Their ages range from 10-17. We are hoping that you could bring an item (bring as many items that you like) to donate to this program. Please follow this link to the Wrenn House. The second link is a list of supplies that they are in need of, so it makes it really simple to donate. Thank you! If you are unable to donate anything, please still come. It is going to be a wonderful event!!

Phoenix/Gilbert, AZ

When Saturday, November 23, 2013. Time 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Where: Abhau Home. 860 S Adam Way, Gilbert, AZ 85296. Jake and Meg Abhaus will be hosting one of the gratitude and service gatherings at our home. Please join us for a potluck Mexican Fiesta dinner. Service Component: The organization that we will be donating to is one-n-ten Please bring the items of donation to the event. If you are able to bring an item to donate, it is greatly appreciated, but if you are unable to donate, come anyway!

Service Details: I am so thankful and blessed that you have reached out to help support the youth at one n ten. Our youth population consists of about 40% homeless or otherwise disenfranchised youth ages 14-24. They could definitely use the support from a group like yours!

Toiletries (shaving cream, razors, tampons, toothpaste)

***These items are the most requested from youth in our housing program, (single-unit transitional housing spaces for our homeless youth). With the holidays right around the corner, any assistance will greatly benefit these amazing young people.
