Carol Lynn Pearson
Occasionally we come across a person who has had a lifetime impact with such a remarkable scope in the LGBTQ community and society in general. To recognize such a person and capture such an accomplishment, the Board of Directors of Affirmation has created a lifetime achievement award. This award, to remind us of the qualities for any other future recipients, we have named the Carol Lynn Pearson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Carol Lynn Pearson has a long and impressive history as a writer, speaker and performer. She is particularly known for her advocacy of LGBTQ people in the church. Her memoir Goodbye, I Love You tells the story of her temple marriage to a gay man, their ultimate divorce, and her husband Gerald’s death from AIDS.
We will stand with the “red letter” words of Jesus himself, following his radical policies of absolute love and absolute inclusion. These are the words and the actions we will celebrate this Christmas, for these are the “tidings of great joy.”
