In times like these, community is so important. We know that there may be many in our community feeling anxious and isolated right now. We are blessed to be living in a time where we can continue to connect with others through various technological channels and that includes connecting with the Affirmation Community.
All students have the right, regardless of sexual orientation to enjoy chaste, affectionate public behavior without any fear of reprisal. LGB students are worthy of the same rights, protections, and freedom of loving expressions which are afforded their heterosexual peers.
While applauding the increase in transparency and clarity the new handbook provides, Affirmation remains concerned that Church policy diminishes the lived experience of LGBTQ individuals.
Having served as Affirmation’s online content and data manager since 2017, Joel brings the right mix of talent, experience, and understanding to Affirmation’s senior staff position as director of operations.

Over 70 members of the Affirmation community signed on Sunday, February 17th, to participate in a web conference detailing Affirmation’s efforts to organize and strengthen chapters throughout the United States and Canada to provide vital face-to-face communities to support LGBTQ Mormons, their family members, and friends.
“Ultimately, an individual often gets to a point where they must live the way they feel internally, in their mind and heart, how they are,” Hall explained. “Identity is a sense of self that’s in the mind, in the heart, and in the soul that transcends the actual physical biology, whatever that may be.”
Affirmation will become the mature worldwide organization providing supportive communities that foster health, healing, and personal growth to LGBTQ with spiritual or cultural connection to the LDS Church.
Previous to accepting the invitation to serve as vice president, Laurie served as a powerful and indispensable member of Affirmation’s Board of Directors. She served as the head of our governance committee, consistently bringing insight and organizational prowess to Affirmation’s leadership team
