Al final, me sentí inspirado de una manera en que no me había sentido desde hace muchos, muchos años. Será un largo camino… pero ahora tengo una visión de esperanza y estoy agradecido por ello. Por eso doy gracias a mi nueva familia y comunidad de aliados y LGBT.
It’s hard to imagine it’s been two weeks since we gathered together for our annual conference in Salt Lake City. What a wonderful opportunity we had to be together in the spirit of friendship and acceptance. Thank you for adding your presence and love. Affirmation – LGBT Mormons, Families and Friends in Mexico are excited to host the Annual Conference of Affirmation Mexico, which will be held from November 14 to 16 at El Ejecutivo Hotel in Mexico City, Mexico. Up until last weekend, I had resigned myself to the fact that family simply would not be something I would enjoy in this life. But all weekend, I was surrounded by beautiful examples of the unconditional love of a forever family.
On Friday, September 26, 2014, Affirmation received an Ally Award at Equality Utah”s Annual Gala in downtown Salt Lake City. Randall Thacker, Affirmation President, and 15 other Affirmation Leadership Team members were there to receive the award. A beautiful video about Affirmation was shown to the audience of almost 2000 and is available here.

What happened next was very unexpected. How could the same people that were oppressed and discriminated against, feel so strongly about preserving their faith tradition? How was I the one frustrated with Cognitive Dissonance and not they? Here it was, right in front of me, that humble gathering of latter-day-saints I had grown up with and grown to love. This was the church family I knew.
The 2014 Affirmation Annual Conference was covered by both print and television media in Utah, but also as far away as Sweden. Coverage emphasized continuing growth of Affirmation; increasing participation in the conference by youth, straight family members and Church leaders; and a yearning on the part of LGBTQ/SSA Mormons to find ways to simultaneously affirm their faith and their sexual and gender identities.
