At this critical moment we live in our country where all community rights are being restricted and taken away, there is nothing like uniting in love and spirituality to show that we are at peace and wanting to be who we are.
Wagner Silveira Santos is a convert to the Mormon Church who desired to serve a mission, tried to submit his mission paperwork twice, and both times was denied by local church leaders for having past homosexual relationships. Today, he wants to help others who don’t have the support to live as they really are.
The chosen theme, “Many Paths, One Heart,” honors the uniqueness of the lives and the choices of every member of the Affirmation family in or out of the Church, while recognizing that wherever our individual paths lead us, we are committed to the Zion-like quality of being “of one heart,” of rejoicing when others rejoice, mourning when others mourn, and making one another’s burdens a little bit lighter by bearing them together.
My favorite and most challenging calling is teaching Gospel Doctrine. Our class is a fascinating mix: single, married, straight and gay, fully to marginally active, people of several races in their twenties through their nineties.
