Justice Rooted in Love
Martin Luther King Jr. Day — January 19
Today, Affirmation honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose vision of justice was grounded not in anger or domination, but in love, dignity, and moral courage.
Dr. King believed that justice is not an abstract ideal. It is lived. It is embodied. It is practiced in community. His call to build a Beloved Community continues to resonate deeply with LGBTQ+ people of faith who know what it means to hope — and work — for a world that has not yet fully made space for us.
At Affirmation, we stand at the intersection of faith, identity, and liberation. On this day, we are invited to reflect together:
- What does love require of us now?
- How do we resist injustice without losing compassion?
- How do we build communities where everyone truly belongs?
Dr. King taught that love is not passive. It is courageous. It tells the truth. It confronts injustice while refusing to surrender our humanity. This vision continues to guide us as we seek healing, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ people around the world.
An Affirmation for Today
I commit to love that tells the truth.
I choose courage shaped by compassion.
I walk toward justice — together.
May we honor this day not only with remembrance, but with renewed commitment to building communities rooted in love, dignity, and hope.
