LGBT Mormons
Many gathered the week of Jan 13-15, 2017 in Portland Oregon for a two-day conference focused on honoring the uniqueness of the lives and the choices of every member of the Affirmation family, in or out of the Church. Wherever our individual paths lead us, Affirmation is committed to the Zion-like quality of being ‘of one heart.’ Hence the title “Many Paths, One Heart.” Re-live the messages shared or watch for the first time.
Responses showed significant emotional distress, dramatic loss of trust in Church leaders, and a dramatic decline in Church Activity as a result of the policy. Individual stories help us to understand where and how different LGBT Mormons find hope, and why discussion about the Church can be so polarizing.

While the absence of stories from those who have left the Church—who comprise the vast majority of LGBTQ+ Mormons—is conspicuous and unfortunate, we welcome the positive development of an improved website, expansion of resources, and emphasis on exercising love through family acceptance, outreach, and listening. We hope this resource will more deeply foster awareness and meaningful conversation.
The chosen theme, “Many Paths, One Heart,” honors the uniqueness of the lives and the choices of every member of the Affirmation family in or out of the Church, while recognizing that wherever our individual paths lead us, we are committed to the Zion-like quality of being “of one heart,” of rejoicing when others rejoice, mourning when others mourn, and making one another’s burdens a little bit lighter by bearing them together.
