Affirmation Hosting Meeting to Provide Support After Church Handbook Changes

Affirmation is partnering with Flourish Therapy volunteers to host a virtual meeting of support for those impacted by recent changes to the General Handbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In response to the changes, which significantly change how transgender members are able to participate in church meetings and activities, the Affirmation Executive Committee released a statement saying, in part, “Rather than seek to better understand, include, and affirm transgender individuals who are also Latter-day Saints, leaders of the Church have opted to further restrict these members’ ability to participate…We hope that God will yet reveal better for our transgender siblings.”

The virtual meeting of support, titled Circle of Love & Support: Navigating Church Handbook Changes, is being held via Zoom at 7:30 PM MDT on Thursday, August 22nd. The meeting is open to all seeing support or to better understand the impact of these changes. Registration is required to attend. Interpretation in English, Spanish, and Portuguese is being provided.
