Maracaibo Municipal Council grants recognition to Affirmation Venezuela
On December 10, 2023, the Solemn Session was held in the Municipal Council of Maracaibo to commemorate the International Human Rights Day, in which the work of organizations working in different areas was recognized, among which was Affirmation Venezuela, recognizing our work in defending the rights of LGBTQI+ people.
This type of event has special relevance in the context of Venezuela, where the human rights of LGBTQI+ people are still at risk. The Municipal Council’s recognition of Affirmation Venezuela was a message of support for the LGBTQI+ community of Maracaibo and a call to continue working for equality and equity for all people.
The event was also significant because it is the second time that the Maracaibo Municipal Council recognizes our work, since in 2022, in addition to receiving recognition for the organization and two of its members, we had the honor of having the then president, Marcial Fuenmayor, as Speaker of Order at the Solemn Session for LGBTQI+ Pride Day.
We greatly appreciate the recognition as it motivates us to continue our work and continue working to defend the human rights of LGBTQI+ people in the municipality and the country.
