Mormons to March in 2014 Pride Celebrations

For the third consecutive year, Mormons will be participating in LGBT Pride celebrations to show their support for their LGBT neighbors, friends, and family. Some will be marching just to say “I love you,” and some will be marching to show their support for full legal equality for the LGBT community. There will be hugging, marching, crying, cheering, praying, singing, forgiving, smiling, and in general, loving. If you need even more of a reason to come, read the ones these Affirmation members give for marching in Pride this year.
The first Pride that Mormons participated in this year was Phoenix Pride, in April. There, a Mormons Building Bridges contingent marched to show their love for their LGBT neighbors. Most Prides will be celebrated in June with concerts, rallies, and festivals that culminate in a weekend parade. Mormons will be participating in several of these events in many Prides around the world:
Salt Lake City
June 5 – 8
Mormons will be participating in the following events:
Thursday: Interfaith service and MBB social.
Friday: LGBT Mormons, families, and friends social.
Saturday: MBB will be in the Trans* rally and march.
Saturday and Sunday: Affirmation and MBB will have a booth at the festival.
Sunday: The parade! MBB and MFE will be marching.
Los Angeles
June 7 – 8
Affirmation will march in the parade and have a booth at the festival. There will also be a post-march gathering for LGBT Mormons, families, and friends.
Washington, D.C.
June 7
LGBT Mormons, Families, and Friends will be marching in the parade, and Affirmation will have a booth at the festival. There will also be an interfaith post-march social.
Portland, Oregon
June 15
MFE will be marching in the parade. There will also be a potluck picnic after the parade.
Boise, Idaho
June 21
Affirmation will march in the parade and have a booth at the festival.
Valencia, Spain
June 28
Affirmation will be marching in the parade.
Mexico City
June 28
Affirmation will be attending the parade.
Seattle
June 29
MFE will be marching in the parade. Dave Schefcik will also be hosting a pre-parade breakfast for anyone who wants to come.
San Francisco
June 29
MFE will be marching in San Francisco Pride.
New York City
June 29
LGBT Mormons, families, and friends will be marching in the parade (banner yet to be determined). There will also be an activity the night before the parade.
Chicago
June 29
LGBT Mormons, Families, and Friends will be marching in the parade. There may also be a pre-Pride party.
Twin Cities
June 29
Mormon Allies will be marching in the parade and may also have a sign-making party prior to the parade.
Later in the year, Mormons will also be participating in Prides in Las Vegas and Moscow, Idaho.
