Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of and deep personal commitment to the mission and vision of Affirmation, and will take personal responsibility for the accomplishment of that mission and implementation of that vision. They will be strongly internally motivated and detail oriented. They will love working with and empowering others. They will have grant-writing and fundraising experience. The Affirmation 2017 Pre-Conference Fireside was held at the Post Theater on Friday, March 31, at 7:00 p.m. Blaire Ostler was MC. Talks were given by Wendall Hair, Ann Pack and John Bonner, Mark Packer was chorister and Chad Millar provided a musical performance from “Elijah.” The theme of the evening was “Healing.”
The first Affirmation Recife conference was very expected by the LGBT mormons living in that area. It was a historical event, because much dedication and effort was given by each member.

Pero solamente digo esto: Igualdad es amor. Igualdad es humanidad. Deseo esto para cada persona LGBTQ. Deseo esto para ellos DENTRO de sus familias mormonas, iglesias, doctrinas y templos. Espero que el día venga, como que siga este sentimiento inconmensurable dentro de esta comunidad más de lo que puedas imaginar. Todavía hay muchísimo para hacer.
Una nueva organización nacional se formó entonces en la Conferencia de Derechos Humanos celebrada en Salt Lake City el 11 de junio de 1977. Zakharias fue nombrado Director Nacional de lo que entonces se llamaba Affirmation: Gay Mormons United.
