Outcomes from the 2019 Affirmation Brazil Conference
This past month, we held our 4th annual Affirmation conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The conference was once again an amazing opportunity for growth for many – some who had attended before and others who were new and looking to find a positive path forward for their lives as LGBTQ Mormons / Latter-day Saints. The conference included workshops, panels, and talks on topics such as personal transformation, self-acceptance, seeing your self-worth, suicide prevention, and identifying the spiritual path for your life. The conference was also filled with opportunities for social engagement to make new friends who can serve as a support in our lives. The activities included a scavenger hunt in a nearby park, playing games together, and a dinner and dance Saturday evening.
What Conference Attendees Had to Say
Conference participants shared the following about their experiences:
“The conference was an amazing experience, totally unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I had never felt so much like my true self as at the conference, where I could be exactly as I am without being afraid. It was wonderful and I look forward to the next one, as it made all the difference for me.”
“Each conference I attend helps me want to be better than before.”
“The conference helped me see my true essence and self-worth more than I ever have before.”
“Affirmation helped me recognize the strength I have to be who I am every day without wearing masks.”
“It helped me see how I can be transparent in society while also giving service to others.”
“Affirmation changed my life and now I want to help others understand God’s love for us all.”
As a volunteer leader for Affirmation in Brazil, I want to sincerely thank our Affirmation friends and donors in the United States who made it possible for us to have this conference. Because of you, we have changed the lives of many in Brazil.
