Affirmation Leaders Converge in Salt Lake City
A Historic Weekend for LGBT Mormons and the Church
by Hugo Salinas
Affirmation members and friends attended together the Saturday morning session of General Conference, held at the Conference Center on April 6. The benediction for that session was offered by Jean A. Stevens—the first time in history a woman is invited to pray in general conference. National Affirmation leaders converged in Salt Lake City for several events held during the weekend.
A Friday evening social at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center included a presentation about homosexuality and the Church by author Greg Prince, and music and testimony by LDS artist Michael McLean.
Wendy Williams Montgomery, who has a gay teenage son and flew to the event from California, said that attending general conference with the Affirmation contingent was “awesome.”
“I’m recharged and refilled,” Wendy wrote on Facebook.
