by Affirmation

October 14, 2020

The Church Leaders Session from the 2020 Affirmation International Conference, a conference hosted annually by Affirmation: LGBTQ Mormons, Families & Friends for the entire LGBTQIA+ Latter-day Saint community. This year’s conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A panel discussion to explore effective ways of counseling, supporting, and including LGBTQ church members and their families. Panelists included an openly gay man currently serving as a high councilor in Provo, a transgender woman who is actively engaged in her Relief Society in St. Louis, a lesbian woman from Hawaii who strives to amplify marginalized voices, a former bishop/stake presidency counselor in Massachusetts who is the father of an adult gay son, and a former YSA bishop in Utah who has ministered to hundreds of LGBTQ church members. All panelists have written about and/or are engaged in, LGBTQ advocacy, understanding, and inclusion efforts. They shared their personal stories/advice and answered questions.

Panelists included Richard Ostler, Valerie Nicole Green, Summer Lee-Corry, Ben Schilaty, and Evan Smith.

The recording of this session and the entire 2020 Affirmation International Conference was made possible by those who financially supported the conference through registration fees.
